Organization & Position Summary:

The Arc Minnesota promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, actively supporting them and their families in a lifetime of full inclusion and participation in their communities. The Arc pursues lasting community change and connections that support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in creating a good life.

This position is responsible for engaging government agencies and private, family, community, and corporate foundations in the mission of The Arc Minnesota through grants, contracts, sponsorships, and other opportunities. This includes organizing external presentations, relationship building with existing and potential funding entities, internal process tracking and communications, as well as ongoing research, analysis, implementation, and evaluation to align with Results Based Accountability metrics.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Write/draft proposals and grant language in support of the overall vision and direction of the grants program
  • Write, prepare, and submit organizational applications, proposals, grants, correspondence, reports and other documents for foundation, organizational, governmental, and corporate grants as directed by supervisor
  • Manage existing grants by: tracking grants; developing internal reporting systems where needed; writing reports; maintaining excellent historical records; working with program staff to ensure each project or program is meeting proposal conditions and expectations
  • Prospect sources for foundation grants, organizational grants, governmental grants, and corporate grants
  • Communicates and aligns funders’ priorities within the development department to coordinate efforts and maximize funding potential
  • At the direction of the CAO and CPO, create an annual program evaluation plan and reporting structure for the organization
  • Create evaluation and survey materials that align with Results Based Accountability metrics
  • Participate in the batch approval process to ensure quality control and appropriate donor stewardship commensurate with giving potential


  • BA/BS required 
  • 1-3 years experience in development, grant-writing, research or related field
  • Excellent time and project management experience, team relationship skills
  • Excellent writing, editing and overall communication skills
  • Ability to persuasively convey the mission and programs of The Arc Minnesota to diverse groups, including funders, board members and other stakeholders who are important to the organization’s overall prosperity
  • Ability to use interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships with current and potential funders and team members
  • Ability to manage and track multiple funding prospects and potential donor relationships, requiring great attention to detail
  • Creative problem-solving skills and ability to act independently
