SUMMARY:Towards a deeper understanding of homelessness in our communities: Findings from the MN Homeless Study
DESCRIPTION:Homelessness\n\n \n\nMichelle Decker Gerrard will present results from the 2023 MN Homeless Study that has taken place across MN every 3 years since 1991. The presentation will focus on the multiple layers of complex challenges faced by our community members experiencing homelessness. We will also save time to discuss policy implications and community responses.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMichelle Decker Gerrard\n\nSenior Research Manager\, Wilder Foundation\n\nCo-Director\, Minnesota Homeless Study\n\n\n\nMichelle has worked for over 25 years as a community-based evaluator for dozens of programs\, with a particular focus on people experiencing a variety of risk factors including mental health and complex health issues\, chemical dependency\, and homelessness.   \n\n\n\nIn addition\, Michelle is the co-director of the Minnesota Homeless Study\, leading a team that coordinates nearly 5\,000 interviews with people experiencing homelessness on a single night. Previously\, Michelle worked as a risk and prevention counselor and wraparound facilitator for emotionally disturbed and other at-risk youth. Michelle has a master's degree in education\, with a focus on risk and prevention\, from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
