SUMMARY:October Member Luncheon: Saint Paul Sales Tax
DESCRIPTION:Saint Paul Sales Tax\n\n\n\nSaint Paul voters will decide this fall if a 1% new tax would be created to help pay for projects in departments of Parks and Rec and Public Works. What would the proposal mean for streets and rec centers? What about the impact on businesses? To help answer these questions\, we will be joined by Sean Kershaw\, Director of Public Works\, City of Saint Paul and Bruce Nustad\, President\, Minnesota Retailers Association. \n\n\n\n\nSean Kershaw\n\n\n\nI aspire to be a transformative\, mission-driven\, civic leader. I have 30 years of experience driving policy and project development\, innovation\, and implementation in the government and nonprofit sectors. Since 2020 I've been the Director of Public Works at the City of Saint Paul. For two years before that I was the Vice President of the Wilder Center for Communities at the Wilder Foundation. I was the Executive Director of the Citizens League for 14 years and worked in Planning and Economic Development at the City of Saint Paul for 11 years.\n\n\n\nI am energized by community and stakeholder engagement\, and by creating relevant\, meaningful\, and \n\nproductive community partnerships. I place a high value on collaborative and effective governance\, and on operational and financial management.\n\n\n\nI'm on the boards of Propel Nonprofits\, and the Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library. With my \n\nhusband\, we co-produce the Grand Oak Opry concert series.\n\n\n\n\n\nBruce Nustad \n\n\n\nBruce Nustad joined the Minnesota Retailers Association as its staff president in 2012\, bringing with him a strong background of working with the business community. Prior to the retailers association he served as TwinWest Chamber of Commerce president and CEO. Nustad's experience also includes leadership positions with the Minnesota High Tech Association\, American Collectors Association\, Twin Cities North Chamber of Commerce\, and the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce. Nustad holds a master of arts degree in public administration from Minnesota State University\, Mankato\, and a bachelor of arts degree in public policy from Concordia University\, Saint Paul.
