SUMMARY:Mind Opener: Tackling Minnesota's Opioid Crisis
DESCRIPTION:Minnesota is in the middle of an opioid crisis. Between 2000 and 2015\, opioid overdoses killed 2\,273 Minnesotans\, and nationally\, they have contributed to more than 200\,000 deaths since 1999. According to MinnPost\, "One reason opioid addiction can be so catastrophic is that some people who become hooked and can't satisfy their addiction with prescription medication turn to heroin\, often a cheaper fix than buying prescription opioids on the street. The number of deaths due to heroin in Minnesota has climbed in tandem with those due to opioids\, according to Minnesota Department of Health data."\n\n\n\nAt our next Mind Opener\, we will hear from Mr. Rob Reynolds\, the former Chief of Police of Eden Prairie\, who currently serves as the Director of Advocacy for a local company working on a solution to help curb opioid addiction. Rob has been traveling the country outlining the opioid crisis by sharing what we know\, what we are learning\, and potential solutions.\n\n\n\nA continental breakfast will be served. Citizens League Members only. Fee $10. Register now space is limited! Citizens League Mind Openers are sponsored by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Minnesota.
